KofC St. Finbar Council’s Family, Youth and Knight of the Month

Congratulations! Props! Kudos!

December 2022

Family of the Month: Mike and Terry Epps

Mike and Terry Epps are fixtures in our parish life.  Both always say yes to any volunteer related request and serve in numerous capacities within the Parish.  Mike is active with the Knights and the Activities Council and Terry is a teacher at Summerville Catholic.  Terry helped arrange a sock drive for Holy City Mission, the warming shelter we support. Socks are their #1 need and Summerville Catholic was able to donate over 1,000 pairs of socks to the Mission. Holy City Mission operates the warming shelter, along with a soup kitchen, offering a clothes closet to all people in need.

Youth of the Month: Alex Peabody

Alex is 11 years old and born on the Feast of the Assumption, August 15, 2011.  He is in the 5th grade at Charleston Catholic where he has attended since the 1st grade.  Alex’s favorite subjects are Social Studies and Writing. He is a great student and conscientious about his school work. His favorite things are everything sports: basketball; football; skateboarding; surfing; flipping and golf. He also loves his friends old and new, at school and in his neighborhood. Alex has really enjoyed altar-serving this fall for the first time with the men at the Cathedral because he always meets someone interesting.

Knight of the Month: Ruben Leija

Ruben was born in Indiana to a migrant worker who was required to drop out of school in the 5th grade to support his family.  Both of Ruben’s parents are devout Catholics and raised 3 boys and 1 girl – all of which are living the American dream.  The Leija family traces its roots to Texas prior to it becoming an independent country and then part of the US.  Ruben, a graduate of Indiana University, has been married 29 years and has 2 children.  His son Anthony is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and is a Charleston City Police Officer.  His daughter is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University and works in marketing and graphic design for the Ghost Pirates, Savannah’s new minor league hockey team. Ruben has been instrumental in the success of our council.  As Deputy Grand Knight, Ruben has taken charge of all of our program related activities and has been a key figure in the growth of the St. Finbar Council.
