The Charleston 40 Days for Life Campaign began February 26th and run through April 5th. Please join us in a peaceful and prayerful protest against the injustice of abortion.
Through prayer and fasting, constant vigils, and community outreach, 40 Days for Life wants to spread hope while also bringing to the forefront the true consequences of abortion–both for the unborn child and the woman and her family. With God all things are possible. As we stand witness, we pray. And through our prayers, we allow ourselves to be God’s instruments for change. Thousands of babies have been saved worldwide thanks to the 40 Days for Life campaigns. Until abortion is no more, we will continue to be a presence of love and mercy to the women and their unborn children.
Sign ups have begun, so please join us as a prayerful witness to those most in need at Planned Parenthood at 1312 Ashley River Road in West Ashley. Click the link here sign up or go to the Charleston 40 Days for Life Facebook page to learn more. Cathedral’s Vigil Day is Saturday 28 March.
For some, the reality of abortion and being present at an abortion clinic is too much. 40 Days for Life offers a daily prayer and meditation for the entirety of the campaign. I encourage everyone, even those who can’t sign up for a vigil outside the clinic, to consider praying the daily reflections and fasting for a change of heart in this country and for the women who feel they have no other option but abortion.

Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need.
The 25th anniversary year of Evangelium vitae gives us a wonderful opportunity to assess, expand, and communicate resources to pregnant moms and families in need. Join a nationwide effort from March 25, 2020 to March 25, 2021 entitled: “Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service.”
O Blessed Mother, you received the good news of the incarnation of Christ, your Son, with faith and trust. Grant your protection to all pregnant mothers facing difficulties. Guide us as we strive to make our parish communities places of welcome and assistance for mothers in need. Help us become instruments of God’s love and compassion. Mary, Mother of the Church, graciously help us build a culture of life and a civilization of love, together with all people of good will, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life. Amen.
