One of the many joys of being Catholic is the universality of it. All Catholics share a common faith and a common liturgy. Go on vacation, and you can find a Mass and know generally what to expect and be able to participate. However, what about when you move and find you need to change parishes?
Having moved and experienced the “New Parishioner” feeling recently, I can attest that it’s overwhelming to leave your old parish and try to find your place in your new spiritual home. However, being welcomed with open arms helps the transition and makes you feel a little less new and a lot more like family.
Monsignor Brovey and the Pastoral Council have created a new and much-needed Cathedral ministry to address just this– a Welcome to Our Parish team. We need the help of a small group of people (2 or more) to share their time and talent. The team would create a plan for ensuring that new parishioners are welcomed and recognized. This is an opportunity to help our parish in a small way that will yield positive and lasting results. We hope you won’t be shy about volunteering for this team. It is not necessary to be a long-time parishioner to participate in this ministry.
Please contact either Monsignor Brovey (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Marian Mentavlos (email@example.com). With your help we can get this new ministry started soon! Thank you for prayerfully considering this important need.
